Their Highnesses Thank the Midrealm for Their Gift of Letters

The evening of Spring Crown Tournament, Their Majesties Ryou and Indrakshi held Court to celebrate a day of great deeds and to recognize the many deserving gentles receiving awards and honors.

During this time, Warder Katerina die Herrliche of the Midrealm approached Their Majesties that they might present a gift to Their Highnesses, Donovan and Meghanta. It was a box filled to the brim with a number of personal letters penned by our friends and family in the Midrealm, written for whoever had won that day’s Crown Tournament.

Collection of letters from the Midrealm

Their Highnesses wish to express their deepest thanks to every person who took the time to write those notes, especially since as they wrote them, the authors did not know who would be receiving them.

The trust and faith in the Eastern fencing community was palpable as each one was opened and read. Both Donovan and Meghanta both hope that they can live up to the wishes expressed within.

  • The East Celebrates Disability Pride Month!

The East Celebrates Disability Pride Month!

This blog was written by Bella di Sicilia, Armiger (she/they).

July is Disability Pride Month, which began right here in the East Kingdom in 1990

Disability Pride Month celebrates and elevates members of our community living with disability, and recognizes that disability culture is a distinct and enriching form of diversity. As the East Kingdom’s Accessibility Porter notes, accessibility is an important form of Courtesy and Chivalry; our Kingdom provides many forms of accommodation such as access to refrigeration, fee waivers for Personal Care Attendants, ASL sign heralding, and creating more accessible court layouts.

Under the auspices of that last category, Their Highnesses would like to draw more attention to a valuable form of accommodation – which is used by our Kingdom in conjunction with East Kingdom Public Broadcasting and the Office of the Accessibility Porter – the Assistive Listening System (ALS).

The East Kingdom is currently pioneering the use of the ALS, designed by Master Joel Messerer, OP, which helps members of our community participate in Their Majesty’s Courts. Using audio streaming technology, which can be transmitted to a hearing aid or phone, the system allows listeners to enjoy Court announcements and conversations from up to 300 feet away. It is currently administered by the Kingdom’s Deputy Tech Chamberlain, Margrave Cristoff Gockerhan von Loch, OP.

The system can be used by members of our Kingdom who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, but it conveys benefits to all. For example, members of our Kingdom who toil in the kitchens during Court, or are sitting in the back of Court, can participate more easily using this technology.

The East Kingdom’s ALS system illustrates how recognizing disability culture and providing accommodation can enrich our entire community. Their Highnesses intend to have the ALS system at as many Royal Progress events as they can during their Winter Reign.

Their Highnesses Partake in Historical Martial Arts A&S Roundtable

Last week, Their Highnesses Donovan and Meghanta took part as panelists in a Historical Martial Arts A&S Roundtable, hosted by the East Kingdom Ministry of Arts & Sciences.

Along with moderator Remy Delamontagne de Gascogne and fellow panelists Katerina Falconer de Lanark and Bella di Sicilia, the group talked about what got them into historical fencing A&S research, insight into their niche projects, the challenges and obstacles they’ve faced in during their research, and how martial arts A&S can go beyond just plate interpretation.

They also gave tips for getting started with historical martial arts A&S research, common resources to use, and more.

  • Regarding Their Highnesses’ Schedule & The Earl Horic Memorial Armored Champions Tournament

Regarding Their Highnesses’ Schedule & The Earl Horic Memorial Armored Champions Tournament

HRH Donnovan Shinnock and HRH Chatricam Meghanta send the Eastern Armored Community warm greetings .

It was a great delight to see so many of you at Crown Tournament. We saw the flower of the armored community volunteering, competing both as consort and champion, and serving as joy filled witnesses to the first Crown decided by rapier combat all with an open heart.

Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to return the favor to witness your valor at The Earl Horic Memorial East Kingdom Armored Champions Tournament on May 17th. HRH Megha will be on a plane, and HRH Donovan must stay within a few hours of home that weekend for his family. His Highness does live within the travel window of the Fight of the Valkyries and plans to attend to support the community.

Our sincere apologies. His Excellency Horic was a lovely man, and HRH Megha wishes she could be there to witness you all compete in his name. She looks forward to hearing the tales of honorable combat and the champions selected on that day, and have the utmost faith in HRM Indrakshi choosing a worthy champion.

    YiS,

Donovan and Megha, Heirs of the East Kingdom
